From bddixon at mindspring.com Mon Mar 8 19:41:23 2010 From: bddixon at mindspring.com (Daryl Dixon) Date: Mon, 8 Mar 2010 19:41:23 -0500 Subject: [Seekers] Stop Hunger Now Contribution Message-ID: <380-2201032904123715@mindspring.com> Sunday, I was wishing to propose that the class contribute $100, which would pay for 400 meals, to the Stop Hunger Now Program. The contribution has to be in by Wednesday, March 10, so Konnoak will know how many meals to plan for on Wednesday, March 24. I am proposing a Seekers' contribution of $100 in this email. If you oppose the $100, let Larry Parks know by noon on the 10th. I will touch base with him in the afternoon to see if the class is okay with the contribution. Thanks, b bddixon at mindspring.com EarthLink Revolves Around You. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Sherrill) Date: Mon, 15 Mar 2010 15:09:46 -0400 Subject: [Seekers] FW: WHY I WON'T BE FORWARDING SOME EMAILS Message-ID: <004f01cac473$140d75b0$3c286110$@rr.com> About #-Mails 1) Any time you see an e-mail that says forward this on to "10" of your friends, sign this petition, or you'll get back luck, good luck, or whatever, it almost always has an e-mail tracker program attached that tracks the cookies and e-mail addresses to use in SPAM e-mails or sell to other spammers. 2) Almost all e-mails that ask you to add your name and forward on to others are similar to that mass letter years ago that asked people to send business cards to the little kid in Florida who wanted to break the Guinness Book of Records for the most cards. All it was, and all any of this type of e-mail is, is a way to get names and "cookies" tracking information for telemarketers and spammers ...to validate active e-mail accounts for their own profitable purposes. You can do your friends and family members a GREAT favor by sending this information to them; you will be providing a service to your friends, and will be rewarded by not getting thousands of spam e-mails in the future. If you have been sending out (FORWARDING) the above kinds of e-mail, now you know why you get so much SPAM! Do yourself a favor and STOP adding your names to those types of listings, regardless of how inviting they might sound. You may think you are supporting a great cause, but you are NOT. Instead, you will be getting tons of junk mail later. Plus, we are helping the spammers get rich. Let's not make it easy for them. Also: e-mail petitions are NOT acceptable to Congress or any other organization. To be acceptable, petitions mush have a signed signature and full address of the person signing the petition. ALSO; PLEASE REMOVER ALL EMAIL ADDRESSES STILL ATTACHED BEFORE YOU FORWARD A MESSAGE. IT IS PUTTING EVERYONE'S NAME OUT THERE. Most people use a nickname for their email just so their real name is not out there on the Internet, BUT...if you have listed their real name in your contacts, it will also show up next to their email address. Be a friend and delete all the names before forwarding. Even better, send everything by BCC. That's Blind Carbon Copy. That way NO names will every show up on an email. BTW: NO large corporation is making charitable contributions for each person you forward an email to/ They are also not giving away anything else free for forwarding email to X-number of people. Hope this information helps you and protects your identity. NO...I am not forwarding this...lol...I actually took the time to type it....so NO SPAM here... -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... For those of you who were not able to be there, I shared a list of eight potential Outreach/Revitalization/Spiritual Development proposals that our planning group has come up with, as well as a ballot with which to vote for your choices. During the discussion Sunday morning, we came up with a couple more ideas, so I have added those to both the list and the ballot. Also, it was suggested that we vote for more than just our "top three" choices, so I would request that you rank all ten ideas, with a "1" for your top choice, "2" for second and so on. I am scoring these like the sports "Top 25" lists - a vote for No. 1 gets more points than a vote for No. 2, which gets more than for 3, etc. Eventually, once all the votes are counted, we will let you know how the voting turned out, and then the committee will get back together to do more research on the top vote-getters. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me or any of the committee members - Gale, Rick, Kathy Lisle, Cynthia, Aaron, and Joan. Thanks for your support and interest so far....Happy Easter!
