[Seekers] Seekers Class Planning Committee

Fellow Seekers,

 

I just wanted to follow up on my remarks from yesterday morning about
the initiative to consider some outreach/rejuvenation ideas.  This will
be a process intended to help the class as a whole decide what, if
anything, it wants to do to reach out to others and rejuvenate our
church in the process. 

 

I am envisioning it resulting in ideas that will all advance the
church's overall Christian mission - in other words, all of our
proposals will be "good things to do".  In addition to that basic
requirement, the ideas might fall into different categories:

*	Proposals that result in immediate growth of the class and/or
the church, such as attracting young adults with children
*	Proposals that result in potential growth, such as reaching out
to college-age students, understanding that many of them might
eventually move away
*	Proposals that may not have obvious growth potential, such as
building teams that do needed work for others, even though the
recipients may never come to our church

 

We also spoke about the potential decline and eventual closing of
Burkhead, but I want to emphasize that this process will not include
that option.  I hope it will be many years before we have to confront
that possibility.  In fact, the main reason I have suggested this
initiative is to keep us from having to face that.  So we are not going
to be talking about closing Burkhead as part of this process.

 

So far, Gale Sink, Rick Mende, Aaron Shough, Cynthia Hall, and Kathy
Lisle have agreed to serve on the planning committee.  I would love to
have a few more individuals so we get a good cross-section of the class.
I would anticipate that the group will meet in the next couple of weeks,
and then once or twice a month, depending on schedules and interest.  If
