[Seekers] Volunteers Needed

Seekers' Class:

 

I just wanted to send out a reminder to those who weren't in class
yesterday morning that there are two District events coming up in the
next few weeks that were discussed by the Church Council recently.

 

The first is an evangelism planning meeting that will be taking place at
Burkhead, called "Power of Three - Plug-In".  It will be happening
Sunday May 16th from 3:00 to 4:30 pm, and we will need greeters and
guides, parking attendants, and child care providers.  The Caring Hands
group has agreed to provide snacks.  We just need a few individuals in
each of those categories, and it is only for a couple of hours.  I hope
you can help us show off our church and be good hosts for this
worthwhile event.

 

The second event is a series of outreach activities sponsored by the
Bishop, "Impact Community", and it will be Saturday June 5th in various
locations around town.  After conversation with Rev. Kathie, we have
narrowed it down to three options:

 

*         Playground Build at Piedmont Park Housing Complex, East 29th
Street near N. Liberty, beginning at 9:00 am.

*         Block Party for the Homeless and their Neighbors, East 11th
Street between Patterson and Chestnut, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

*         Children's Home Painting and Repair, 1000 Reynolda Road, 9:00
am to 2:00 pm

 

We discussed these opportunities yesterday in our lesson dealing with
Inclusiveness - obviously all of them are good ways to show support for
and include those persons we don't often come into contact with.  Just
as Jesus sought out those on the fringes of society, here is a chance
for us to go outside of our "comfort zone" and make a difference in the
lives of people that Jesus would have recognized.  I hope you can attend
one of these events.

 

There are sign-up sheets in the Seekers' classroom for both of these
events.  I hope you will give them both prayerful consideration.
