The Church Council met last night and had a good meeting. A couple of
things came up, especially during Kathie's report, that I wanted to
share with the class, so I called Richard Rogers last night, and he
thought it would be okay to send out this message. Here are some things
we need help with, or that you should be aware of:

Old Town School: Teacher Appreciation Lunch will be Tuesday May 4th, at
the school, and Becky DuBois is the coordinator for this. They are
thinking of doing a salad bar. It needs to feed over 100, and go from
10:15 to 1:30 that day. Please talk to Becky if you are interested in
helping. The book drive is also underway, and if you can help with a
contribution, Betty Bewley is the contact.

Wesley Foundation Dinner: the final meeting of the WFU Wesley Foundation
will be Thursday April 29th, and we will be providing dinner, just as we
did last fall. Please see Becky if you are interested in helping and
attending.

District Mission Team: our district is organizing a district-wide
mission building and support team. If you are interested in getting on
the mailing list, let me or Rev. Kathie know.

Power of Three Plug-In Evangelism Event: there is an evangelism task
force that has asked to use Burkhead to host a meeting for 100 attendees
on Sunday May 16th from 3:00 to 4:30 in our Fellowship Hall. They would
like us to provide volunteers and snacks. I am chairing our support
effort, and the Caring Hands group and Charlie Jones will also help.
Please let me know if you can help with this worthwhile event at our
church.

Conference Community Impact Day: this is an event that Bishop Goodpaster
is sponsoring, and our district is in the planning stages for it. It
will be held during the day on Saturday June 5th at several locations
around town. We can either plan an event of our own or assist in one of
the other events produced by other churches. Some of the other venues
are: Block Party for the Homeless at 11th and Patterson (over near
Samaritan and Bethesda), Playground Build at Piedmont Park Housing
Complex, Children and Family Service Day at Maple Springs, and Painting
and Repair at the Children's Home. These events are intended to reach
out to individuals in the 19 to 35 age range. This would be a
church-wide effort, and I'm sure there will be more discussion about it
in the weeks to come. Mark your calendars for June 5th.

Pre-School Sunday: we will be inviting the families of our pre-school
children to join us for worship in two weeks. We may want to have
additional nursery helpers and greeters at the doors to help facilitate
this. And it might not hurt to see if we can have an extra-good
turn-out for the worship service that day - it's Sunday April 25th, two
weeks from now. Please see me if you can help, and please try to be
there that day!

Thanks you all for your support, and for all you are already doing for
our church!
